As stated in the National Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses of Canada’s “Standards for Practice (2014)”:
“PeriAnesthesia nursing practice involves care in the health cycle to identify problems or risks that may result from the administration of sedation/analgesia, anesthetic agents/techniques and/or surgery.”
Where do PeriAnesthesia Nurses Practice?
PeriAnesthesia nurses may be practicing in any area where patients receive sedation and/or anesthetics.
For instance, you might see PeriAnesthesia nurses in pre-admission, post-anesthetic care units, day and same-day surgery departments, regional/epidural/spinal anesthesia areas, diagnostic imagining departments, free-standing surgical clinics, dental offices, labour and delivery settings, or pain management services.
